how the town operated with one patrol car, how the city manager borrowed money to meet payroll, and how residents stopped an airport from locating right down the middle of town. Teaster, current city manager; Mr. Dan Conner, first city manager; Mrs. Mable Ellis and Mr. Bobby Quarrels, long time city staff; Mr. Ronnie Whaley, early patrol officer; and Mr. Lloyd Helton, early volunteer officer. 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. Old Harp Singing – East Tennessee shaped note singers sing traditional hymns that were used in old time singing schools around the GSM region. The “do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do” singing tradition has been kept alive in this area by a group of singers
who attend Old Harp Singings in Blount, Sevier and Knox counties. David Sarten will conduct the singing.
